History of the Project

Äerdschëff was initiated by CELL – Centre for Ecological Learning Luxembourg within the framework of the strategy of rural development LEADER Atert-Wark. The project caught the attention of the local GAL (groupe d’action locale LEADER) and received initial funding. From May 2015 until April 2016, the young architect Léa Mauguin did an EVS – European Voluntary Service – within CELL in order to design the plans of Äerdschëff and constitute the steering group. Since December 2015, Atert-Lycée Redange has been supporting the project. The high school has yielded some public land for the construction of the Äerdschëff. The high school is developing the pedagogical aspect of the project with its students and creates the opportunity for the project to open up to the region. In spring 2016, the project received support from the Bâtiments Publics (MDDI) and the philanthropic foundation “Oeuvre Nationale de Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte”. The Äerdschëff project was awarded the Etika prize in 2016.
